Resistance training is a central component of not only rehabilitation and high performance, but of every day life.
People with higher measured muscle strength decrease risk of osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, dementia, cardiac, and vascular diseases.
Structural integrity and stability are dependent on ideal postural alignment, neurological efficiency , and sound musculoskeletal function. Applying resistance throughout the entire range of movement promotes quality and control of all available movement.
A purposely designed resistance training program is central to maintaining a healthy body and mind throughout your entire life.
Utilising outdoor equipment from fences and railings to steps and park equipment can turn your local surrounds into a fresh air gymnasium.
For those with a passion for running we also offer run coaching to improve technique, performance, and reduce post training soreness and injury risk.
A natural environment, reduces stress and promotes natural endorphins improving mental health and immune function.
Dance therapy has proven to be a powerful neurological modality improving symptoms of dementia/Alzheimers, Parkinson's, MS and ASL.
Dancing demands postural and musculoskeletal strength and coordination improving posture and strength mitigating all musculoskeletal risk factors.
if you can dance straight, you can walk , sit, and stand straight.
Dancing is fun! It is superb neuromuscular training on its own and when added to the social benefits of partner dancing improving positive neurotransmitter levels and immune function.
Water based therapy removes the compressive load of your body weight allowing your joints to perform desired movements and tasks without exacerbating symptoms like pain and swelling.
It also improves the quality of movement by adding the resistance of water broadening its applications from rehab right through to specific high performance conditioning.
From orthopaedic and cardiac cases to elite sprinters and combat athletes, hydrotherapy remains one of the most effective treatment & conditioning modalities we know.
The concept of proprioception (balance) training is to have an awareness of body position in space and the relative position of your joints and limbs.
Equipment like the BOSU and wobble board challenge the feedback loops which exist between your central nervous system and the nerve end organs (proprioceptors) of your limbs. By increasing the efficiency of this loop you can strengthen & heal injured areas like ankles and knees, regaining stability, mobility, & performance.
The feedback loop between your central nervous system and muscluloskeletal structures involves thousands of messages per second adjusting and re-adjusting firing sequences to improve functional efficiency in every possible environmental permutation.
These variables must be explored by training variation.
Physical and mental rehearsal are also vital.
Proprioceptive training improves not only your balance, but your efficiency and therefore overall strength and stability. It is not only rehab, but high performance and quality of life.
Walking and running, along with sitting, standing, and sleeping are among the everyday activities most of us do poorly which decrease our efficency and increase unnecessary effort, fatigue and pain in this life.
Just walking differently can decrease your pain and fatigue, while increasing your ”energy levels” , productivity, and performance.
From video gait analysis to exercise prescription and programming, your posture and gait can be improved within a matter of weeks and continued for the rest of your life, continually adjusting and honing so you can get the most out of even the simple everyday activities in this life.
Athletic training and competition bring extreme demands on both body and mind.
Congratulations to Joanne Morgan, after starting as a rehab client following retirement from competition in 2018, returned in 2019 to win the World Masters Kettlebell (endurance lifting) Championship.
Our sports injury and performance work has us involved with people in Basketball, Rugby, Triathlon (all disciplines), Tennis, Golf, Weightlifting and Athletics, just to name a few.
Pain is not an annoyance to be be masked pharmaceutically until it is too late late to heal the cause.
It is a physiological alarm bell designed to gain your attention and change your behaviour away from the cause of the pain allowing your body to heal
Many people ignore the warning sings or “niggles” for years or even decades only to be forced to have surgery and/or surrender the activities that gave them joy in this life.
Our clients have completed successful pain management for every body part including feet, hands, knees, hips , fingers, wrists, shoulders, and of course, back pain.
Back pain, particularly lower back pain, is so often unnecessary.
Whether through direct traumatic injury or poor lifestyle & posture, all the contributing factors can be addressed and decreased ultimately decreasing your pain and dependence on drugs to mask that pain.
Ka Huna literally translated means the sacred, or the secret. It also pertains to royalty.
The ancient polynesians developed a shamanic system of ministering healing to their fellow man by recognising their connection to themselves, each other, and the planet upon which they rely for life itself. They were so cognitively developed that they were able to map the Pacific Ocean using nothing more than stick maps on the beach and their own spacial awareness knowing where they were on the ocean in any conditions without any land mass references. They may not have developed our level of technology but in most ways they were far more cognitively and neurologically developed than we are.
KaHuna, though referred to as the Rolls Royce of massage, is an holistic approach to gaining neurological and vascular (energy) flow. The long flowing techniques are stimulating, relaxing, and draining of the lymph.
KaHuna can be delivered as floor technique, bone and joint therapy, and/or the popular oil massage.
We use MCT and standard coconut oil but this can be varied according to individual sensitivities and preferences.
Kahuna sessions typically last 90-120 minutes at a cost of $150.
From preconception though to Mother and baby exercise sessions, managing the process of welcoming your child into this world is all about a healthy, happy Mum.Following strict guidelines around aerobic and resitance exercise to meditation and sleeping coaching, childbearing can be done so much better.
From Marfan's and Erlhers Danlos through to Cerebral Palsy and cardiac valve malfunction, careful monitoring and exercise with lifestyle management can improve efficiency and minimise complications in cases where many have been given no hope (see testimonials).
Arthritis, lupus, cardiac, diabetes, cancer, stroke, chronic stress states and insomnia can all be helped by improving some basic lifestyle practices and adding the conditioning to maintain those good techniques through your entire day, every day….
If you have a diagnosed medical issue or injury for which exercise is a prescribed management modality, you may be eligible to claim your sessions through your health insurance, depending on our level of cover. We also see NDIS clients who are assessed on an individual basis.
As you're probably aware, results will vary depending on the issue you have or the goal you desire. Our results are generally based on a minimum 3 to 6 month program. At the end of this period, and with our guidance, you will decide to either continue your program indefinitely (as most of our clients do), set up an intermittent training schedule (that is, a return to us every 3 to 6 months for a refresher or additional rehab/training work), or to finish your program and use what you have learned from us to maintain your own regime.
No problem. All you need to do is make sure you communicate with us beforehand so that someone else can be fitted into that time slot. You can always re-schedule.
